Eigenlijk wilden we dit weekend een trip naar de hooglanden maken, maar dat lukte helaas niet. Een bezoekje naar het dichtbij gelegen Anstruther is een eenvoudig maar vermakelijk alternatief. Dit kleine vissersdorp ligt iets verder dan [Crail][1] en heeft slechts 3600 inwoners.

|
Omdat er dan ook niet heel veel te doen is, is de busreis van veertig minuten erheen een deel van de attractie. Nu het jaar vordert blijken de velden vol te staan met mysterieuze gele bloemen en ook merkwaardige gele struiken weten de aandacht te trekken. Dit zijn het raapzaad gewas en de ulex (gaspeldoorn), belangrijk om te onthouden!

|
In de haven van Anstruther valt het op dat er een groot verschil is tussen eb en vloed. Er is duidelijk goed gepland, want de reddingsboot ligt in dieper water en de touristenboot vaart pas uit bij vloed. Deze laatste boot biedt een excursie naar het Isle of May, kennelijk erg bijzonder maar wat mij betreft geen £24 waard.

We hebben een ronde gelopen door het dorp, langs de kerk, de kleurrijke en met schelpen gedocoreerde huizen en uiteraard de golfbaan. De grootste attractie was eigenlijk de lunch: fish&ships bij de prijswinnende [Fish Bar][2]. Afhalen is aanzienlijk voordeliger dan binnen eten en met de Schotse zon erbij was dat helemaal geen straf. Omdat de bus alleen uurlijks rijdt, was er zelfs nog even tijd voor een zomerse ijsco.
